Kanazawa City’s rise as a flourishing cultural centre is inextricably linked with the rich diversity of its environment. Both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems around the city’s urban area have played an important role in giving shape to the physical form of Kanazawa in terms of its functionality and aesthetics.
Reconnect with your surroundings! is an environmental education campaign [subsystem / strategic level within Kanazawa City Branding], which takes place in an effort to reverse the trend of forest under-use and preserve the rich ecosystems of satoyama 里山 (symbiotic landscapes and seascapes) around Kanazawa. These initiatives share an endeavour to reconnect people with the landscape and teach them how to take care of it. Satoyama’s fields and forests are promoted as sites of learning and play, where urban residents can immerse themselves in nature while acquiring an appreciation of the wild flora and fauna it shelters.

金沢シティブランディングの戦略レベルである「環境教育」活動である Reconnect with your surroundings!は、金沢市を取り巻く里山の豊かな生態系を保全し、森林の利用不足を解消することを目的としている。これらの取り組みには、景観と人々を再び結びつけ、景観を大切にする方法を教えるという努力が共有されている。里山の野原や森は、都市住民が自然の中に身を置きながら、そこに生息する野生動植物への理解を深めることができる、学びと遊びの場として推進されている。
